Daniel Ray “Danny” Wilkerson was a longtime Tennessee Steel worker who spent more than 22 years at the mill. Born and raised in Knoxville, Danny came from a working family and learned early the importance of showing up, doing a job well, and looking after the people beside you. At Tennessee Steel, he became an experienced mill operator and was known for his practical knowledge, quick sense of humor, and willingness to help newer employees learn the job.

Danny took great pride in his work, but he never defined himself only by what he did at the mill. Coworkers remember a man who knew when to be serious and when a joke could make a long shift easier. He cared deeply about his crew and believed that everyone should go home safely at the end of the day. On April 14, 2022, at the age of 51, Danny was killed in an accident while working at the plant. His death was a profound loss to his family and to the men and women who had worked alongside him for so many years.

Away from Tennessee Steel, Danny's life centered on his wife, Lisa, and their children, Kyle and Morgan. He enjoyed fishing, weekends in the Smoky Mountains, Tennessee football, and quiet evenings at home. He was especially close to his younger sister, Amanda, and remained a dependable presence in the lives of his parents, Ray and Brenda. Family trips did not need to be elaborate to make Danny happy. A cabin, a fishing rod, good food, and the people he loved were usually enough.

Danny is remembered for being dependable, hardworking, funny, and deeply loyal. For his coworkers, his absence was felt in the everyday routines of the mill—in familiar conversations, shared breaks, and the knowledge that an experienced friend was nearby when help was needed. For his family, his legacy lives in the values he passed on, the traditions they shared, and the many ordinary moments that became treasured memories.
